McGraw Elementary, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, opened in 1992, and is named in honor of Beryl "Brownie" McGraw, long-time PSD educator. McGraw is proud to be a part of Poudre School District and a network of over 5,000 authorized IB World Schools in over 150 countries around the world.
All students in grades K-5 participate in the IB Primary Years Program, as documented in our school IB Access Policy. The Primary Years Program (PYP) is an international education framework focused on the development of the whole child as an inquirer and life-long learner, both in the classroom and in the world beyond. As a result, our students are equipped to make a positive difference in their local and global communities.
McGraw's learning environment is inquiry-based, engaging students in the construction of understanding through their questions, research and reflections. Building on state standards, teachers create units of inquiry. These units are structured around a concept-based, transdisciplinary approach to learning. Every student at McGraw receives weekly instruction to develop their competency in a second language (Spanish). McGraw also houses the district Deaf and Hard of Hearing program.
Teachers at McGraw are trained in differentiation of instruction, inquiry-based teaching approaches, curriculum design, use of ongoing assessment to plan individualized student learning opportunities, Positive Behavior Support and Response to Intervention.
