Exciting happenings are springing up in the McGraw Nature Center! Classes are putting the idea of stewardship into action by trimming, weeding, planting, picking up trash, taking photos and making observations in the nature center and front garden beds. Teachers have found authentic ways to use our nature center as an outdoor classroom to inspire student learning across the curriculum.
In celebration of Earth Day, April 22, our Nature Center Committee organized grade level presentations by local experts on topics such as plant adaptations, wildlife corridors, sustainability, the impact of humans on insect life cycles, and tracking and protecting large wild cats. We hope that these presentations will help students better understand how they can be global stewards of our Earth.
At the final SOAR assembly of the year in May, we will recognize the many people who were instrumental in the establishment of our nature center. We think that they will be very happy to see that our nature center is being loved and cared for by McGraw students.
If you would like to play an active role in the ongoing development/care of our nature center or our front garden beds, please contact Paul Schkade at firstname.lastname@example.org.
